
Prokletije National Park isthe most remote and unexplored, but perhaps also the most surreal and spectaculararea of Montenegro. The Prokeltije Mountains are awe-striking, theirmagnificent jagged peaks punching into the sky, then soothed with scenicEden-like lush valleys. It is home to the highest peak in Montenegro, and itsharsh environment of these peaks earns itself its ominous name—Prokletije,meaning “Accused Mountains”.
· Walks & Hikes: there aren’t many tourist attractions in this remote park. It drawsonly keen mountaineers and intrepid tourists. The most impressive scenic hikesare really only for the experienced and well-equipped, and with a guide. Forthe less keen hiker, simply take walks in lush valleys, taking in theout-of-the-world views of the majestic mountains. Check in with Visitor’sCentre for info and maps.
· Plav: thistown is the ideal base to access and explore Prokletije National Park (11 km).Head north to visit the Brezojevica Monastery sitting along floralriverbank in rural tranquility. Drop by the Botanical Garden Velemun ifit takes your interest. Follow the river down to the pretty Lake Plav,quietly mirroring the imposing Prokletije Mountains. Turn back in town to checkthe Redžepagić Mosque and the Defensive Tower slightly up thehill.
